Last Post Ever?

Well this has been fun these playoffs but i do not think i will be able to this all next year. Hope you have enjoyed it while it lasted. Now to the highlights.

I will leave with this. First off Congrats to the Detriot Red Wings and their fans they deserved this. The pens absolutely gave us a heck of a ride throughout the season and playoffs. It started with the first game of the year and ended last night. There were so many highlights to note throughout the year, but i think that the 2 moments that will stick out in any penguins fans mind is the Winter Classic and Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Also Penguins fans will not forget the effort's of Ty Conklin and Evgeni Malkin when Marc-Andre Fleury and Sidney Crosby were hurt. It's safe to say we would not have been where we where without them. Also the great trades at the deadline to bring in Dupuis, Hossa, and Gill. The pens really have to try hard to sign Hossa. He may have been the best player for the penguins in there playoff run. Also if this was the last game for Gary Roberts he absolutley had an amazing career and was a great guy that everyone loved. This may be the end of the road for Mike Lange as well. Mike has done so much for the penguins and the city of Pittsburgh in his long stay here he deserves to go down in history as a guy like Bob Prince. These Penguins have nothing to hold there heads about. The quest for their Stanley Cup begins again in October and I honestly cannot wait to see these young guys play with all this expirence they have gained in these finals. In the words of Badger Bob "It's a great day for hockey."

pens lose game 4 now down 3-1

well this may be the end soon, us as penguins fans just have to believe, its not impossible to comeback and win the next three but it is going to be very difficult.
The pens lost 2-1 last night so the only stuff i got is the Hossa goal. It was his 10th of the season assisted by gonchar and crosby early in the first. After that the red wings took over and scored the next two to seal the deal in pittsburgh.

Pens win game 1

Well the pens were able to get a good start to the Eastern Conference Finals by winning by a final score of 4-2.
The scoring for the pens got started by Petr Sykora when he was set up by a beautiful pass by Malone. Sykora got the puck and at the last second was able to move it to his backhand to get his 5th goal of the playoffs at 6:19.

However, the 1-0 lead did not last long as Mike Richards was able to find the back of the net. The play had to be reviewed but was an obvious goal. So we were tied at 1
until Mike Richards got his second goal of the game just over 4 minutes later at 12:50. He found the puck loose around the crease and had an easy goal. With the pens down 2-1 Sidney Crosby got a great feed by Marian Hossa who intercepted the puck on a bad clearing attempt by Flyers Goalie Martin Biron. This was Crosbys third goal of the playoffs scored at 14:11 to the game at 2.

Then with just 7 seconds left in the 1st period Evgeni Malkin found the Flyers sleeping as he was able to come down the right wing and put a shot right under the blocker and stick of goaltender Biron to give the Pens a 3-2 lead going into the intermission.

With the score at 3-2 the Pens were killing a penalty when Evgeni Malkin got dumped behind the Flyers goal by Mike Richards. The Flyers then came into the attacking zone, Sergei Gonchar was able to steal the puck and feed Malkin on a breakaway because he was slow getting back on the play. He took a slap shot from 5-10 feet in front of the goal and Biron did not have a chance. This was Malkins 8th goal of the playoffs scored at 4:50 of the 2nd.

The Flyers could only attack the Pens for a few times the rest of the game as they played shutdown defense. Fleury made some key saves down the stretch. The only real scare the pens got the rest of the game was with 9:28 left in the 3rd Ryan Whitney went to the box. If the Flyers could have scored here this game could have been a lot different. The pens next game is Sunday at 7:30 see you then.

Pens advance to conference finals

The game was scoreless after one then in the 2nd Marian Hossa scored his 4th goal of the playoffs at 8:45 assisted by Malone and Crosby.

Then not long after Malkin was able to put home his 6th playoffs as he made a great play and got off a backhand shot to put it over Lundquist shoulder to give the pens a 2-0 lead in the 2nd. Goal was assisted by Letang and Whitney.

After 2 it was 2-0 Pens. Just when you thought the Penguins were easily going to get away with a victory the Rangers stormed back early in the 3rd period to tie the game at 2. The scored remained 2-2 at the end of regulation. The game went into overtime and finally at 7:10 of the overtime Crosby was able to get the puck to Dupuis who was somehow able to feed Hossa in the slot for the game winning goal.

Pens up 2-0 in the drivers seat

The penguins won game 2 today by a final score of 2-0 to take a 2 games to none lead in the best of 7 series. A good game where both teams had there chances, but both goalies played great. The penguins seemed to have the advantage in the 1st period mainly because they had 2 power plays where they dominated but could not score. The 2nd period was back and fourth until Jordan Staal broke the scoreless tie at 13:55 of the 2nd period after Evgeni Malkin made a great play to set him up.

Thats how the 2nd period ended. Then in the 3rd with just over 6 minutes left Petr Sykora went to the box for hi-sticking. The pens were able to kill it but then with just over two minutes left Hal Gill went to the box for cross checking. This was the Rangers chance to tie it but they were unable to. Fleury came up big and the penalty killing was good as well. With 17 seconds left with the goaltender pulled Adam Hall shot the puck down the ice and all the Rangers could do was watch it roll into the net and the game was over.

Penguins whiteout the rangers in game one

After falling behind 3-0 the penguins made one of their greatest comebacks in franchise history. Jarkko Ruutu scored his 2nd goal of the playoffs in the 2nd period. Goal was assisted by Staal and Orpik at 8:13.

With score 3-1 Dupuis was able to put one past Lundquist shortly after. It was his 1st goal of the playoffs. Goal was assisted by Crosby at 8:27.

The penguins then tied it early in the 3rd when Marian Hossa got his 2nd of the playoffs. This goal was assisted by Scuderi and Malone at 4:40.

Twenty seconds later the penguins took their first lead and made it 4-3 as Petr Sykora put home his 4th goal of the playoffs. Goal was assisted by Malkin and Malone at 5:00.

After the Rangers then tied the game at on a goal by Scott Gomez. Then late in the 3rd former penguin Martin Straka went to the box and penguins took advantage and scored the game winning goal. Crosby shot it and Malkin deflected it in for his 2nd goal of the post season. Goal was assisted by Crosby and Whitney at 18:19.

What a game this will go down as one of the great games in penguins history lets hope we can use this moment going into game 2 and the rest of the season.

Sweep!! Pens win 3-1 move on to next round

Malkin started the scoring for the pens with his 2ND goal of the playoffs at 1:40 of the 2ND period assisted by Crosby and Gonchar to make it 1-0 pens.

Later in the 2ND period the senators got a goal from Cory Stillman at 10:31 assisted by Redden and Volchenkov. With the score tied at 1 the pens got a goal from an unlikely source as Jarkko Ruutu scored a highlight goal by spinning as he was on a partial breakaway. Tyler Kennedy got the assist at 15:28.

Then with Ottawa attacking hard Fleury was able to make some great saves down the stretch which lead to an empty net goal by Sidney Crosby to make it 3-1. His second goal of the playoffs came at 19:52 and was unassisted.

Here are my awards for round one of the playoffs

Penguins MVP:
The MVP has to be Marc-andre Fleury.

• He gave up a total of 5 goals in four games
• Fleury posted a goals against average of just 1.26
• He finished with a save percentage of .955

Penguins X-FACTOR:
Jarkko Ruutu was by far the most underrated player in this series.

• He drew a huge penalty late in game 2 which lead to Ryan Malone's game winning goal with just over a minute left
• He did not take one penalty during the entire series, something that he did a lot of in the regular season
• His amazing goal that he scored last night proved to be the game winner

Best Offensive Player:

Tie Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin

• Sidney Crosby leads all players in playoff scoring with 8 points (2 goals and 6 assists)
• Evgeni Malkin is tied for second with 7 points (2 goals and 5 assists)
• Both players shined at times

Best Defensive Player:

Everyone on defense has stepped but I think Rob Scuderi played the best.

• He was tied for second on the team with a +3
• He took only one penalty
• Scuderi just really did everything a defense men is supposed to do.
